🗒 Ingredient notes (+ substitutions)

- Frozen cherries: other than water, all you need to make this recipe are frozen cherries! Using frozen fruit makes this recipe so fast, you can blend and enjoy it right away. Plus, frozen fruit is available year-round and usually cheaper than fresh ones. I used sweet dark cherries from the brand 365, but any sweet cherries will work. Be aware: some frozen cherries are tart (which is usually clearly stated on the packaging) and will make this sorbet less sweet if using them. I think a blend of sweet + tart cherries like this one from Wyman's should work too if you love tart flavors.

📝 Variations
- Almond extract: almond + cherries are such a great match, try adding a few drops of almond extract to your sorbet!
- Lemon: especially if using 100% sweet dark cherries (not tart), a squeeze of lemon juice will brighten up the flavor and balance the sweet taste.
- Other fruit: you can do a mix of different frozen fruits, such as blueberries, peaches and strawberries.
🍽 How to make 1-ingredient cherry sorbet

Step 1: Add the frozen cherries and ½ cup of water to a blender.

Step 2: Blend on high until smooth and creamy. You will have to take breaks to scrape the sides and bottom of the blender, and add a little more water if necessary. Enjoy right away or transfer

💡 Helpful tips
- High-speed blender: blending frozen fruit works better if you have a high-speed blender such as Vitamix or Blentec. That being said, you can still make this recipe using a regular blender, only expect to have to take more breaks to scrape the walls and the sorbet might hold on to a few pieces of fruit, which would be fine.
- Tamper: it is incredibly helpful to make sorbet in your blender if you have a tamper (check out the quick video down below in the recipe card). If you don't have one, then you will need to take more breaks to mix using a spatula.
- Tart cherries: if you only have frozen tart cherries available, then you will likely have to add a sweetener. Simple syrup or maple syrup will work well, just add to taste!
- Adjust consistency: I needed ½ cup of water to create the perfect texture, but you might need more or less depending on your fruit and the strength of your blender. You can start with ⅓ cup and add more as you go.

🍴 Serving suggestions
This cherry sorbet is great as it is and we enjoy it straight from the blender or the freezer and scooped in a bowl.
You can also garnish with:
- Fresh mint
- Shaved chocolate or chocolate chips
- Shredded coconut
- Chopped nuts
Also, use this recipe to make a breakfast smoothie bowl! Simply spoon the cherry sorbet into a bowl and garnish with seeds (chia seeds, hemp seeds), more fruit, granola (we love this sourdough granola!) and a drizzle of peanut butter.
❗️ Storage tips
Transfer the cherry sorbet to a glass container and keep it in the freezer for up to 2 months. If the sorbet is too hard to scoop after being in the freezer for a little while, then let it thaw slightly for 15-20 minutes before scooping.
❓ FAQs
I haven't tried it yet, but I think it should work. You might have to process for a little while and you might end up with a few pieces of fruit still intact, which would be totally fine.
Yes, you can! In that case, I recommend using a simple syrup, which is known to help create a super creamy consistency to sorbets.
This might sound odd, but adding a tiny amount of vodka (or any other 40% alcohol beverage such as whiskey) to your sorbet will prevent it from completely freezing to a solid block when you leave it in your freezer.
